Chaucer has become the latest insurer to join the panel of retail broker Road Runner Motor Trade Insurance.

Road Runner, which is owned by motor trade specialists Fyfe Group, also places cover with MMA, Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA), Tradex and Service Policies.

Discussions between the two companies began in February, and Chaucer will go live with Road Runner on 1 November.

"As we work on a system driven basis we've had to have all Chaucer's rating information built into our system," said Fyfe managing director Paul Inskip. "It's taken a little longer than expected."

Fyfe is also developing a new motor trade proposition, Monthly Motor Trade Insurance, which will offer online motor trade policies direct to customers that are renewable on a monthly basis. The product will be underwritten by R&SA.

"In essence, the motor trade is transient," Inskip said. "There are quite a lot of motor traders who will go away for three months in summer and do motor trade for the rest of the year."

Inskip said the product would be launched for testing in southern England in the first week of November before a national launch (excluding Northern Ireland) in January 2004.
