Law Bazaar website to put claimants in touch with lawyers
Lawyer Costas Andrea has launched a website called The Law Bazaar to cut claims management company (CMC) costs to just £150, claiming claims farmers rip-off £400m a year in excessive fees, the Guardian reports.
He says: "Lawyers are paying big money to buy in cases. Based on recent injury claim statistics, CMCs earn £400m from the fees solicitors have to pay them for introducing new customers. These charges do not benefit consumers because these costs have to be found from somewhere.
"I intend to change the way personal injury and other legal claims are handled in the future. Why should lawyers pay middlemen a fee for your business, when people could go direct? The savings could result in the claimant being paid by the lawyer who takes on their case."
Claimants register anonymously online. The lawyer will contact the claimant directly and pay £150 to The Law Bazaar when taking on the case. The lawyer is around £600 better off than buying claims from other CMCs.
