Ralph Jones, the head of the directors' and officers' (D&O) liability insurance unit at Chubb, has resigned.
His departure comes at a time when D&O insurance faces problems on several fronts. Companies paid out 36% more to litigious shareholders last year than in 2001, according to actuarial consultancy Tillinghast-Towers Perrin.
D&O insurers have borne the effects of rising claims and have been struggling to find adequate capacity over the last 12 months.
Vinay Saqi, an analyst with Morgan Stanley said: "Investors are not likely to view the timing of the change as positive, given the recent rise in directors and officers claims, especially related to years prior to 2002."
Robert Cox, the unit's chief underwriting officer, will replace him.
Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
