The CII has presented three exceptional service awards at this year's annual conference, including one for Branko Bjelobaba, general manager of GISC, who became the youngest person ever to receive the Bridgewater Award for Exceptional Service.

Bjelobaba said: "I feel extremely honoured to receive this award." He added: "I have loved supporting the Luton & St Albans institute and the national CII. It has also helped me to progress my career. I urge all practitioners to get involved with their local institutes."

For the first time, the CII also awarded two life vice presidencies to Phillipe and Sabine Bonin of the École Nationale d'Assurances, Paris. The CII said the award was in recognition of their promotion of insurance education throughout Western Europe. Normally only one such award is given.

Chairman of the CII awards panel Allen Prior said: "The CII benefits from outstanding service form many of its members in local institutes and in a national or international context. These awards, which were presented for the first time in 1998, allow us to recognise the significance of such service."
