A new Faculty of Underwriting has been formally launched by The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

The CII said the Faculty has been introduced to provide support to those working within the functions of underwriting, pricing, risk modelling, risk management/control/surveying, reinsurance, marketing/sales, compliance and audit.

Lee Gladwell, CII group sales and marketing director said the Faculties play an important role in the CII's engagement with the market: “Each is led by the market to ensure that the CII delivers exactly what that market sector requires. This is enabling us to focus our support to companies and members and to provide them with the tools and services they need in this fast changing environment."

Gladwell added: “Underwriters in particular need to make sure that their awareness and knowledge of market issues is second to none. The Faculty has a crucial role in this respect by providing the market intelligence to enable the CII to develop the right products and services. In doing so we will also enhance the professional talent within the sector.”

The CII's recently launched Job Role and Competency framework already signposts levels of competence for those undertaking a range of underwriting roles from assistant to manager. The CII said a range of additional services are also being developed for members of the Faculty.
