Broker trade body Biba's Modern Apprenticeship Scheme is to be run by a specialist wing of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), the Insurance and Related Financial Services National Training Organisation (IRFSNTO).

The scheme is open to trainees under 25. Government funding is available for all costs associated with aspects of their training.

Modern Apprenticeships offers a structured training programme covering technical knowledge, sales or administration, in addition to IT and communication skills.

IRFSNTO director Tom Evans executive director said: "I am delighted that the Biba training scheme is to come under IRFSNTO's wing, with Biba remaining as advisers."

IFRSNTO will manage the training programmes for more than 200 trainees across the UK - the majority in the broking sector.

Biba will continue to give advice to employers and trainees on suitable training programmes and offer access of funding.
