A large proportion of customers believe that going through the claims process for small claims takes up too much management time.

This view, revealed in a recent small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) survey conducted by Norwich Union (NU), has persuaded the insurer to rethink the terms and conditions of some of its SME policies.

NU director of commercial products Jim Noakes said one of the real surprises to come from the feedback was the finding that SMEs believed dealing with small claims of around £500 or less was often not worth the hassle.

Noakes said that while the insurer had not drawn "any firm conclusions" from the finding, it might offer a greater choice of excesses or excesses set at higher levels.
