Promotions to boost European growth strategy

CNA Europe has appointed Paul Dowling and John Taylor to the newly-created roles of chief underwriting officer, commercial lines and chief underwriting officer, specialty lines, respectively.

Additionally, Paul Maidment has been named head of distribution and marketing.

All will report to John Hennessy, CNA Europe’s chief executive, and begin with immediate effect.

Dowling joined CNA Europe in 2009 to lead its renewable energy and construction practice. In his new role, he is responsible for CNA Europe’s renewable energy, technology, marine, property, casualty and group personal accident and business travel lines and risk control engineering.

Taylor has led CNA Europe’s financial lines business since 2006. In his new role, he is responsible for CNA Europe’s Financial Lines and HealthPro business lines.

Maidment's current remit widens to include continental Europe.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
