John Taylor has been appointed to the new post of chief underwriting officer at CNA Insurance Company with immediate effective.

In his new role, Taylor will oversee CNA Europe’s underwriting across its marine, casualty, property and financial lines and report in directly to CNA Europe chief John Hennessy.

He will also be responsible for the company’s specialist technology and renewable energy offerings.

Taylor, who has more than 25 years experience in the insurance market, including spells at Chubb and Willis, joined CNA Europe in 2006, leading the company’s financial lines and eventually assumed overall underwriting responsibilities for its specialty lines operations.

John Hennessy, chief executive of CNA Europe, said: “John has played a pivotal role in developing our business in recent years, displaying a commitment to strong underwriting foundations and risk management while overseeing innovative products and serving the needs of the broker community. As we continue to pursue profitable growth throughout Europe, John’s understanding of the underwriting environment in all our markets will be a huge benefit to our business.”

Taylor will continue to chair CNA Europe’s pan-European underwriting committee, overseeing underwriting operations and controls throughout its network of offices in the UK and continental Europe.  He will be joined in this capacity by Carl Kearney, chief actuary and risk officer, and Rhonda Buege, underwriting officer for CNA Europe’s specialist healthcare business, HealthPro.
