Disaster restoration company Rainbow International said it has put its national network on red alert as forecasters are predicting the highest tides for 20 years in the UK.

Forecasters have warned of high tides with potentially severe flooding should the tides be combined with stormy weather.

Rainbow International said the move to red alert was to be prepared for possible claims surges and has set up direct links with environmental agencies to anticipate when and where flooding will hit.

Phil Else, Rainbow International's managing director said: ”Hopefully, these tides will pass without incident but we cannot ignore the possibility that there could be serious flooding in several areas of the UK.

“We are alerting insurers and brokers to the possibility of high volumes of claims and we have put our entire network on red alert."
