Allianz Cornhill has called for more criminal convictions for people involved in insurance fraud and staged accidents.

Allianz Cornhill claims fraud manager Mihir Pandya said: “Regrettably, although the police show initial enthusiasm at the high quality of our evidence, these cases often flounder through lack of prioritisation, resource and commitment from the police.”

Pandya added that Allianz would be putting pressure on the police to step up the fight against fraudsters.

“Although it remains a struggle to secure convictions, the improvements in our detection and investigation capability are making it more difficult for the police to ignore our reports. Hopefully, increasing pressure from us and other insurers will bring about the change in prioritisation of these crimes, which are often committed as part of a broader criminal lifestyle.”
