Insufficient reinsurance cover forces Copenhagen Re to reject renewal business for 2001/2002 .

Copenhagen Re will not underwrite new business for the 2001 to 2002 renewal season.

The global reinsurer originally suspended underwriting on 25 September in order to better understand its exposure to US tragedy losses.

In a market statement this week it said: "Due to the events of 11 September, Copenhagen Re elected to cease underwriting new business with coverage extending into 2002 until it could be satisfied that sufficient reinsurance
cover would be available.

"Copenhagen Re is not satisfied that this will be the case and will therefore not write new reinsurance business during the 2001/2002 renewal season."
