Cox Insurance has continued its ambitious internet expansion plans with the launch of www.insure.co.uk, a new web site offering a range of travel and motor products, writes Alaric Nightingale.

Cox, which has only just announced that it had teamed up with internet service provider Freeserve, is the sole owner of insure.co.uk.

As with the Freeserve venture, Cox will be acting as an intermediary, offering the public a wide range of products from a panel of insurers.

The new site has been created using an e-business platform developed in association with Sun Microsystems, BT and Oracle, using their technology to integrate Cox's existing systems.

A feature of the new site is that users will be able to benefit from the web currency beenz.

This is a currency that enables web users to obtain discounts on the products they buy on-line and will apply to all insure.co.uk users.

Michael Dawson, chief executive of Cox Insurance, said: "We believe the internet is going to be an important distribution channel for personal insurance products and we are determined to be a major player. Insure.co.uk is a major step in our strategy."
