The 300,000 tonne French supertanker Limburg, crippled by a possible al-Qaeda attack, may cost insurers $70m (£45m).

According to industry sources, ACE is the lead insurer and Marsh is the broker. It is also understood that there is a substantial London Market involvement in the follow lines.

A leading marine broker said that, unusually, the marine and war risks have been packaged together. The broker also said that while the owners have not declared a total loss, if this were the case it would have a "material impact on the marine market." ACE declined to comment.
