Guaranteed rates for critical illness cover are under threat according to life broker Rebroke.com.

Rebroke said that Norwich Union had recently increased its guaranteed rates by 50% and that other insurers may follow suit following pressure from reinsurers concerned. Guaranteed rates may even disappear all together, it said.

The broker said that reinsurers were concerned that improvements in medical techniques may give rise to a flood of claims.
