Yachts, one of the causes of insurance broker Ward Evans's downfall, could be the saving of ex-director Alex Dawson.

Dawson, who was sunk by the firm's irregular accounts and huge expenses claims, has launched a company on the high seas of yacht brokerage.

The venture, Nautica Yachts (Harrogate), represents a remarkable turnaround for a man who just months ago was suffering health problems brought on by stress.

When contacted by Backchat, Dawson declined to comment on what he or any of the other directors are up to at the moment - after all, an investigation into the collapse of the firm is still underway.

However, website www.nauticayachts.com makes it clear what his new business does.

It offers almost everything a prospective yacht buyer could hope for with access to £500m worth of yachts and an after sales department that covers almost every service in a captain's log. Every service, that is, except marine insurance.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
