Debis Insurance Services will sell household insurance designed specifically for owners of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Chaucer Insurance's motor syndicate 587 will be the exclusive underwriter of the cover, which will include additional fatal injury cover of £50,000 if the deceased was killed while travelling in a Mercedes.

Debis director Steve Carter said Chaucer, which is also the managing agency for marine syndicate 1084 and non-marine syndicate 1096, was chosen as it could provide the high-quality service associated with the Mercedes-Benz brand.

He said market research had shown demand for the product from Mercedes owners.

“It's an upmarket household policy,” Carter said. “Generally, they're people of mid-net worth, not living in castles and mansions but with a four or five bedroom detached with a bit of land and quite a lot of chattels.”
