December is, of course, the month of the Insurance Industry Awards, where Zurich won the Insurer of the Year Award for the first time, as well as winning six individual categories and being shortlisted in several more. It was named winner for private motor insurer, engineering insurer, commercial motor insurer, private motor claims handler, commercial motor claims handler and best broker support package.

The awards were hosted by Clive Anderson and 30 awards were handed out during the course of the evening to large and small companies alike.

Also in December premium finance company Prompt completed the £2.4m acquisition of Tifco in a deal that lets it challenge market leader Premium Credit. Prompt chief executive Bob Golden said its parent company Close Brothers, had been approached by Aegon, Tifco's Dutch owners, in September to see if it was interested
