A new website with links to a number of direct insurers including Direct Line, Norwich Union Direct, Admiral and Budget is set to be launched by a Scottish broker.

Online intermediary insuredirect.co.uk will provide customers with comparative quotes for motor, home and travel insurance and the option to buy on the web.

Broker Dave Nicholson, who owns Fyfe high street brokerage Park Place Insurance, has developed the site.

He said: "We will be a facility for insurers to transact online with a small commission.

"We recognise that it is important to get in early with web technology.

"There is a percentage of people who would like the anonymity of an online quote and would like to get documentation and buy online."

Direct Line's e-commerce manager Justin Skinner said: "Insuredirect has joined our associates and affiliates programme and it will be acting as a customer introducer.

"Direct Line has been proactively looking for sites where we can put links to grow our 35% share of the online insurance market."

The site will also offer customers the opportunity to buy over the phone if they would prefer not to make online transactions.

Insuredirect will also be one of the first portals to use the newly launched e-support system 24 7.

The system includes a quote engine that hosts a panel of 49 insurers.

It also includes a customer relationship management system, a payroll system and Office 2000 and allows brokers to add their own panels to the portal.

Nicholson said: "Using the 24 7 system has been a tremendous advantage and we felt it adapted best to our needs."

An exact date has not yet been planned for the launch of insuredirect.
