Research carried out by Churchill Insurance shows that doctors make more claims on their car insurance policies than any other profession.
They are closely followed by chefs, recruitment consultants and social workers.
Those making least claims are farmers, steelworkers and retired people.
The head of motor underwriting at Churchill, Andrew Beard, said: "The poorer claims experience associated with doctors reflects the long hours they work in a very stressful job. Consequently, when driving they are most likely to be tired and possibly distracted."
He added: "People's occupations provide a useful lifestyle indicator, which we use to fine tune our premiums."
