Ratings agency Standard & Poor's downgraded the German and French marine and aviation operations of Allianz to A- from A+.
The businesses together are known as AMA.
Credit analyst Emmanuelle Calès said the change reflected worries over volatility and long-term profitability of the businesses' core markets.
He said: "As a consequence, we view AMA, in the medium and long term, as not strategically important to its ultimate parent company Allianz AG."
