Ecclesiastical has hit back at union criticism over its restructuring plans, claiming its job cull will affect up to 40 full-time staff.

Speaking to InsuranceTimes.co.uk Ecclesiastical managing director Graham Doswell denounced Unifi's claims that job losses would be higher than originally announced, as "inaccurate".

Doswell said: "I am disappointed with the union's stance. There is an apparent lack of concern in their remarks and they are rather inaccurate.

"We will be reducing staff levels by around 40 full-time positions. The union has probably arrived at its figure by examining the number of people available to fill posts within the company.

Responding to union claims that Ecclesiastical did not give staff early warning over redundancies, Doswell said: "The union has been made aware from the earliest possible opportunity of our plans. We are offering counselling and support to all staff affected."
