Club Elite, the exclusive club for CGU's best 750 brokers, could be heading for the scrap-heap, intermediary business director Ken Wallace hinted at the roadshow.

At the event Wallace asked: “Where is the value in being in an elite club with 750 other brokers?

“We want to take it beyond Elite. What we will be doing is talking to the Elite people and saying ‘what can we do for you within this umbrella?'. These discussions will be carried out very much on a one-to-one basis.”

Insurance Times columnist and CGU's ex-head of broker relations, Tony Cornell, who predicted the end of the club said: “My overall view is that it is an understandable move. I am not sure Elite is as relevant to the future as it was when it was launched.”

Wallace has also warned Norwich Union will seek tighten its credit agreements with some brokers.

He said: “We will look at the 90 days' credit on offer to some brokers, but it will be part of the review with each broker's account manager.”
