The departure of AIG's Maurice Greenberg this month opened the door for Essex-born Martin Sullivan to take the top job at the world's largest insurer.
Sullivan has been acting as chief executive since Greenberg's sudden exit from AIG following accusations of fraud by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.
Sullivan, 50, has been widely tipped to take on the role permanently.
