Paul Bennett, underwriting director at NBS Underwriting, discusses why his firm should win the MGA Initiative of the Year prize at the Insurance Times Awards 2022

Explain your entry in the MGA Initiative of the Year category.

NBS Underwriting is an ambitious MGA providing market-leading products for brokers across personal and commercial lines. Our business model is to add specialism to areas outside the main insurer appetite.

Our entry focuses on our commitment to provide service excellence. The initiatives we have introduced to achieve this are:

  • Automation for ease of transactions - our quoting system ensures speed of delivery, even for complex cases.
  • Instant or same-day quotes and advanced renewals.
  • Adapting technology and engaging with insurtechs to drive the industry forward.
  • Developing products such as community enterprise and unoccupied property.

What do you think makes your entry stand out or different from your competition?

NBS Underwriting’s key strength is agility and the ability to respond to market conditions.

Our initiatives have seen our business grow – increasing from £23m gross written premium in 2020 to £73m in 2022. We now have over 1,000 agents with over 450 of them placing business every month, compared to 300 who were doing this a year ago.

We work hard to give our brokers a competitive advantage. We employ the best people, work with the best insurers and always strive to be exceptional.

We firmly believe our range and product quality, technology, speed of delivery, quality of service and underwriting expertise is unrivalled by any other MGA in the industry and sets us apart from the rest.

What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Our employees have been loyal and productive throughout the year and their support is key to our success. Winning this award would recognise their dedication and contribution.
