An angry Derbyshire councillor is blaming the compensation culture for forcing him to cancel a race he's organised for 22 years.

Derick Jewell was looking forward to planning next year's pleasant Hope Fell Race. But then the Fell Runners Association issued new regulations. As Derick explained: "All race marshals must now be experienced fell runners or walkers. Not all of our 30 volunteers are, so we couldn't obtain the correct insurance."

The new measures apply to all races, whether for novices or experienced runners.

The race is usually the high point of the annual Hope Wakes festival. But not next year.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
