The Fire Brigades Union has announced it will strike again on January 21 as anger grows over their pay dispute.
Fire Brigades' Union representatives from across the country also decided not to take part in fresh talks at the conciliation service, Acas, next week.
The new strike will begin last 24 hours and looks certain to be followed by a series of fresh strikes.
FBU general secretary Andy Gilchrist said: "This is a very sad day for the fire service. We have been prepared to talk, to negotiate to settle this dispute, but every attempt by us is met with inflexibility by the employers."
