Allianz, which took over Esat German state insurer Staatliche Versicherung, is expected to have a high primary exposure with large reinsurance companies, including Lloyd's syndicates, being potentially hit hard.
It is unclear how many households in Germany and the rest of central Europe have flood protection as part of their cover.
