Tropical Storm Florence is now expected to take a more northerly path, increasing in strength as it passes over the warm waters of the mid-Atlantic.

According to Tropical Storm Risk the storm, which could reach the strength of a category 3 hurricane in three to four days time, is now less of a threat to the North American East Coast, but could pass close to Bermuda.

Dave Roberts, a Navy forecaster at the hurricane center, said: "The concern would be Bermuda at this point, how close the destructive force winds will move toward it."

Bermuda's worst hurricane on record was Fabian in 2003, a category 3 storm which hit the island head on.
