Underwriting agency Unicorn set for further appointments 'within weeks'

Former Euclidian chairman James Truscott will join the board of THB’s recently created underwriting agency, Unicorn Underwriting, as managing director.

Unicorn, which was set up as a separate FSA-regulated company within THB Group in January this year, plans to underwrite in excess of £15m GWP in its first year of trading with its existing bloodstock team as the main product line.

Andy Hawkes, chief executive of THB UK said: “We are delighted James is joining us. He has a wealth of expertise and contacts within both the London and regional markets and will drive our ambitions to grow our underwriting agency business at a time when capacity providers view MGAs as a strategic distribution channel.”

James Truscott said: "Unicorn aims to attract specialist cover holders and underwriters with track records for technical profit and a wish for independence. We will facilitate their operations and give them a flexible environment to grow. Unicorn is already in dialogue with regard to a number of opportunities and we expect to announce the appointment of our first new team in the next few weeks.”

Truscott was managing director of South Coast-based Williamson Moore Insurance Brokers and was instrumental in the sale of the business to Oval Group in 2007. He was previously chairman of Euclidian and has over 25 years of London Market experience.
