Andrew Agnew to chair broker's international operations

Former JLT Limited chairman Andrew Agnew is to become chairman of Arthur J Gallagher International on 1 May.

In addition to chairing JLT, Agnew was founder of independent Lloyd's energy broker Agnew Higgins Pickering.

"[Agnew's] considerable market experience and leadership skills will help us build on our very strong position in the London and international markets," said Gallagher International chief executive David Ross in a statement. "Andrew will focus on ensuring that we derive maximum benefit from the co-ordination of all our global businesses ensuring that we execute on our strategic plan.”

“I am thrilled to joining a company that has developed in such an exciting fashion over the last few years, which itself is an indication of the tremendous opportunities there are for continued growth of the business building upon the fantastic foundations and hard work that David and his leadership team have put in place," added Agnew. "Gallagher is becoming increasingly influential in both London and International markets and I am hugely enthused at the prospect of joining a team that has such clear ambitions and plans.”

Gallagher International is believed to be in advanced takeover talks with rival broker Heath Lambert.
