Rumours in the market suggest insurer Fortis will be making a major announcement tomorrow, fuelling speculation of another high profile acquisition.

The company has been linked to motor specialists Kwik-Fit, Highway and AA over the past 12 months and chief executive Barry Smith has made no secret of his desire to make further acquisitions.

However, the insurer has recently diversified with the procurement of the Age Concern account and the successful launch of new products in commercial vehicle and household.

According to one source: “Fortis is likely to be looking to increase its access to personal lines customers outside of its core motor activities.”

The company bought personal lines broker and affinity specialist Outright in September of last year.

Fortis declined to comment.
