The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) is holding a series of events around the country for mortgage and insurance intermediaries, it announced.

It said the roadshows were designed to give intermediaries an opportunity to find out how the FOS works and what its role is.

The FOS said it had already opened its doors to intermediaries who wanted to join its scheme voluntary, in advance of FSA regulation in 2005.

It said those who joined before regulation would gain valuable experience of what being covered by the ombudsman service involves and would face less change when they become FSA regulated.

The first FOS roadshow begins tomorrow in Reading, followed by Watford, Maidstone, London, Belfast, Brentwood, and Liverpool, ending in Swansea on 5 May. The FOS said more dates and venues would be added as soon as they were confirmed.

The events are free and more information can be found at the FOS website, financial-ombusdman.org.uk.
