The Treasury is expected to announce at 3.30pm that regulation of the general insurance industry will be taken away from the General Insurance Standards Council (GISC) and passed to the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

The announcement is expected to be made by Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Ruth Kelly.

The GISC confirmed an announcement regarding the regulation of the general insurance industry was expected but could not confirm its contents.
