The GISC is investigating the placing of tradesman's cover through brokers JR Carrigan & Son.

The inquiries follow allegations of wrongdoing made by NIG last month regarding cover placed through its Tradesmen Insurance Scheme. NIG alleged "in the overwhelming majority of cases where proposals had been submitted, via J R Carrigan & Son, there were serious anomalies".

A JR Carrigan & Son spokesman said: "J R Carrigan & Son strenuously refutes any allegations of wrong-doing.

"The matter is currently under consideration by the GISC."
