Linaker Malcolm Alexander has joined Linaker as development manager for the company's sports and leisure insurance division. Based at Linaker's head office in Bristol, Alexander will be responsible for managing the division's continued expansion andproviding risk management consultancy to its client base.

Smart and CookSmart and Cook has appointed Tim Mortimer to the post of operations director.Working with existing operations director Neil Thornton at the firm's Harrogate headquarters, Mortimer's role will focus on working practice across Smart and Cook's 11 regional offices and several recently-purchased businesses. Mortimer will also be involved in the long-term marketing strategy for the group as a whole. Mortimer began his career in insurance as a graduate trainee with Commercial Union. After Commercial Union he spent ten years at Harrogate broker Gale & Phillipson, before moving to SMG in Leeds.

Heath LambertHeath Lambert has promoted Martin Holland to managing director of credit and surety. Holland will be based in Swindon and will take responsibility for managing and expanding the credit and surety operation. He has more than 20 years' experience in credit and surety insurance. Prior to his appointment as managing director, Holland had been deputy managing director, with responsibility for client servicing and administration. He joined Heath Lambert as a graduate trainee in 1981.

WPS Plymouth-based WPS has appointed John Meredith as non-executive director, to provide strategic and corporate development support. Meredith has held senior retail and wholesale board positions in the London market for 12 years, having been a director of CBC UK, managing director of Bray Wintour Patis and chief executive of London Broking Service. He also operates his own consultancy and is a director of Elite Resourcing.

TIC Lancaster-based TIC (UK), independent insurance intermediary, has appointed John Cross as a director of the company, following the retirement of Brian Davies.Cross previously worked in farming insurance with Cook and Smith, and Preston Farmers.

FMW Matthew Stoodley has joined Chelmsford broker FMW as account handler in its property and corporate risks team. Stoodley is currently studying for his ACII qualification.

HealthSure HealthSure has appointed Jason Brelsford and Melanie Hughes as account development coordinators.Prior to joining HealthSure, Hughes worked for The Accident Group. Brelsford has worked as a consultant for Bupa for the past five years.In their new roles, Hughes and Brelsford will liaise with clients to communicate the benefits of HealthSure's new healthcare policy.

Allianz CornhillAlison Paterson has been appointed business systems and project manager for Allianz Cornhill personal. Paterson joined Allianz Cornhill in 2002 as personal lines projects manager. Her new role will involve the business management of internal and external system issues, including e-commerce, provision of project management expertise to personal lines and management of major cross-departmental projects.

Hardy UnderwritingHardy Underwriting Group has appointed Tom Phillipson to its new financial institutions underwriting team. Phillipson has been underwriting financial institutions business at Lloyd's since 2000. He previously practised as a solicitor at a specialist insurance firm.The financial institutions team comprises William Knapman, Tom Phillipson and Adrian Daws.

Mayer, Brown, Rowe & MawMayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP has appointed partners Richard Gregorian and Andrew Legg in London to its insurance insolvency practice. Gregorian has joined from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. His areas of expertise include advising solvent and insolvent insurance companies on exit strategies. Legg has joined from Linklaters. He is a senior litigator with more than 20 years' experience, 14 of which he spent as a partner at Linklaters. His practice focuses on insolvency-related contentious work and he also has experience of disputes in insurance and reinsurance, including insurance insolvency issues.

Clyde & CoClyde & Co has appointed several new partners in the UK. Tim Crosley, who joined Clyde & Co's corporate tax team last year from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, has been appointed as partner. Gareth Lewis has also been appointed as partner. He represents part of the aviation team that recently joined from CMS Cameron McKenna and he deals with disaster claims, general aviation, product liability, contractual disputes, patent disputes, personal injury claims and policy coverage issues.

IBBSolicitor IBB has appointed Rob Borwick as partner. Borwick is a member of IBB's business investigations and governance team, which specialises in regulatory, health and safety and environmental work.

Robin SimonRobin Simon LLP has appointed two new partners.Philip Steel will be joining the firm as partner after eight years as a partner in another practice. He will head Robin Simon's Birmingham office.Matthew Reynolds has also been made partner. He will remain in Robin Simon's Leeds office, where he has been based for the past eight years.

FitzGerald ConsultingFitzGerald Consulting has appointed Alex Murray to its team of insurance management specialists. Murray was previously director of business services at Gerling Insurance Company. At FitzGerald he will focus on the provision of services to the international insurance industry, where a combination of technical, senior management and market experience is required.

NewSmith Financial SolutionsNewSmith Financial Solutions, the corporate advisory arm of NewSmith Capital Partners, has appointed Trevor May as partner. May formerly worked in the European insurance research team at Schroder Salomon Smith Barney (Citigroup), where he also coordinated the firm's global insurance research product. An equity research analyst for the last 18 years, he has also worked with UBS Philips & Drew, Nomura and BZW. He joins TJ Lim and his team at NewSmith Financial Solutions as part of a group advising clients on capital structure, balance sheet optimisation, and market interface. May brings insurance research and actuarial expertise to the advisory team.

EMB Peter Lee has been promoted to partner at actuary EMB. Lee has been with EMB for six years and has personal lines pricing and reserving experience. His experience also includes several overseas and commercial lines projects. He previously worked for Bacon & Woodrow and Allianz Cornhill.

EJSBrian Stewart-Brown and John Engestrom have joined the advisory board of EJS, an executive search firm specialising in insurance and reinsurance.Stewart-Brown is former chairman of Aon Strategy Board and Engestrom was formerly chief executive of Ace Tempest Re. Tom Forster, former director of QBE European HR, is the third member of the advisory board.
