Temple Legal Protection
Temple Legal Protection has appointed Colin McKenzie as regional manager for Scotland and the North of England. He has 14 years’ legal expenses experience and previously worked for Law Club.

Ockham Holdings
Ockham Holdings has promoted Ross Dunlop to executive chairman of Ockham. He has hitherto been its non-executive deputy chairman. He was formerly with National Parking Corporation and on the board of UK Insurance, a subsidiary of Green Flag.

Andrew Gibson is to become chief executive. He was group finance director as well as managing director of Ockham’s motor insurance business. The board is further strengthened by the appointment of Chris Hill as underwriting director and Ian Patrick as finance director.

The group proposes to change its name to Highway Insurance Holdings.

Unum Provident
Unum Provident has appointed John Hutson to the new role of head of public relations. He joins from RAC Motoring Services, where he was head of public relations and corporate communications.

Alan Ord has been promoted to general manager, individual business, based at its lifestyle protection centre in Bristol. He previously held the post of interim operations manager.

Millers
The Miller Insurance Group (Millers) has appointed two new directors, Jonathan Fussell and Simon Scholfield.

Fussell joins as compliance director.

His role will include reviewing best practice procedures and controls across the company in view of the impending FSA regulation.

A qualified accountant, Fussell joins Millers from Bradstock Group Services, where he has worked since 1996 in a number of roles including that of compliance director.

Simon Scholfield joins Millers as a director working within the property and liability unit. He will assist in the expansion of Millers’ US property portfolio and he will also work on other large property accounts.

Before joining Millers, Scholfield was a partner at JLT Risk Solutions, and prior to that, a vice-president of Marsh, London.

Clausen Miller PC
Clausen Miller PC is setting up a London office to be run by three partners from Hextalls. They are John Startin, Nigel Plant and Jane Beacham, all of whom will be leaving the firm to open the new office.

Since 1999 Hextall Erskine and Clausen Miller PC attorneys of Chicago, US, have been working together as an international partnership under the title Clausen Miller Europe.

IBM
IBM has appointed a team of experts in the insurance and life and pensions industries.

The team, led by Shaun Crawford, previously vice president and head of the insurance sector at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, will spearhead the ongoing development of a range of solutions from IBM.

Crawford’s title will be director of insurance services and he will initially focus on the delivery of life and pensions solutions with selected alliance partners. Crawford is joined by Andy Baldwin (who will lead the development of general insurance solutions), Imran Ahmed and Chris Corllett, all previously of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.

Crawford’s previous experience includes 19 years in the financial sector including six years at Ernst & Young, later Cap Gemini Ernst & Young leading life and pensions, insurance and eventually the sales and marketing of all financial services activities.

Previously, Crawford worked at NatWest, principally launching NatWest Life, as well as at PricewaterhouseCoopers and HSBC.

Phoenix
David Simpson has joined Phoenix IT Services as group financial controller. He joins from the Ministry of Defence where he was a financial researcher.

He has also worked at Misys, where he spent ten years in various finance positions, including financial director of its financial systems division.

GAB Robins
Steve McCullough has been appointed commercial technical director at GAB Robins. He will be responsible for the commercial property product in North Thames and Anglia.

He joins from Capita McLarens.

Cybit
Cybit has appointed Kevin Lawrence as finance director. He joins from Lighthouse Group, where he was group finance director, and has more than 18 years’ senior finance experience.

Mondial Assistance
Tony Lancaster has been appointed non-executive director at Mondial Assistance, following his retirement from Groupama Insurance.

He has more than 40 years’ industry experience and was chairman and chief executive at Groupama.

He was also president of the Insurance Institute of London (IIL), on the council of the International Underwriting Association (IUA) and a board member of the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

Chem-Dry UK
Chem-Dry UK has appointed Ian Armstrong as quality technical auditor for the Midlands and south of England.

He joins Chem-Dry UK with more than 35 years’ insurance industry experience, the majority gained with Willis Group.

Dave Stewart also joins as quality technical auditor for the north of England.

He has worked in the insurance claims industry for 44 years, spending the last 25 years with GAB Robins, where he was a senior loss adjuster before becoming claims controller and supervisor of the subsidence product.

The Davis Group
The Davis Group has made two new additions to its haulage department.

Diane Woodhead, account executive, has moved from Thompson Heath and Bond and will be focusing on servicing the large amount of new business the team generates. Karen Hunt, from Norwich Union, has joined as an account handler supporting the expanding fleet team.

PWC
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) has appointed Michael Daly as director of its actuarial and insurance management solutions practice in Scotland.

He joins from Winterthur Life & Pensions where he was the regional actuary for Asia Pacific, based in Tokyo. Previously Daly was head of consulting for South East Asia at Trowbridge Consulting, part of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.

Car Care Plan
Paul Newton has been appointed group director of finance and IT by warranty provider Car Care Plan and its underwriting arm Motors Insurance.

Newton joins the Leeds-based company from internet accountancy firm Ascot Drummond.

Prior to that, he worked at the Provident Financial group of companies for 13 years.
