A guide to this week's movements in the insurance industry

Broker

Marsh
Marsh has expanded its local client servicing teams in Scotland in order to boost growth in the small and medium-sized business sector there.

Iain Murray and John Hegarty will join teams in Marsh's Risk Trading Practice, which delivers a wide range of commercial insurance products to small and medium-sized firms from 13 locations around the UK.

Murray joins Marsh's Dundee office as a client executive, servicing and managing client accounts in the area. He has over 20 years experience in the industry having previously worked for Willis, Forfar and Towry Law.

Hegarty joins Marsh's Edinburgh office as client executive. He has over 15 years experience in the industry, previously working for Giles and Axa.


Insurer

Allianz Cornhill
Allianz Cornhill Legal Protection has a new addition to its claims team. Jenny Minton has been appointed as before the event (BTE) claims handler. Her responsibilities will include dealing with claims covered under the family policies legal expenses insurance section of the household and motor policies.

Jenny previously worked in Allianz Cornhill Motor Claims and spent a year working in the Sydney subsidiary of Allianz.

Allianz Cornhill Engineering has appointed Frances Derry as business regulatory manager, responsible for monitoring and implementing compliance within the division.

Her role involves working with head office to ensure that the division continues to support all relevant regulatory controls.

Citybond
Citybond Suretravel has created a new position of customer care manager.

Des Woods, having previously spent over 16 years with Europ Assistance in various roles including sales, claims and policy administration, joins Citybond to take charge of its operational functions with a staff-force of 72, in both Beckenham, Kent and Mumbai.

Glacier Reinsurance AG
Glacier Reinsurance AG ("Glacier Re"), the European reinsurance company, has appointed María Arana Antelo as energy underwriter.

María Arana Antelo joins Glacier Re from Infrassure Switzerland, where she was underwriter and claims manager specialising in power generation. Prior to this, she was technology team leader for Alstom and senior engineer for Siemens Westinghouse.

Highway
Motor insurer Highway has appointed Susan Foley as regional account manager for the north of England and north Wales.

Foley will be responsible for the management and development of Highway's brokers within the region. Supported by a regional underwriting operations team, she will be the main point of contact for brokers.

Foley has worked in insurance for nearly 15 years and was most recently Commercial Development Underwriter at R&SA, where she was responsible for the underwriting and pricing of individual risks.

Sterling
The Sterling Insurance Group has announced the appointment of Phil Carr as senior development manager. Carr will be responsible for managing client relationships, including support to the broker network, and will work closely with the Sterling business development team on reviews, budgets, planning and compliance.

Carr joins Sterling from Cardif Pinnacle where he worked as senior business development manager in the mortgage and consumer lending team.

Whittington
Harry Whitcher has been appointed as a director of Whittington Insurance Services, part of international insurance investment and services business Whittington Group PTE.

He also remains compliance and risk manager for Reliance National Insurance Company (Europe) Limited and a member of the Whittington Insurance Management audit committee.

Mr Whitcher has spent 23 years in the insurance industry and joined Whittington in 2004 from the Financial Services Authority.


Loss adjuster

Criterion
James Scott Brown has joined Chris Monks and team at Criterion Surveyors. He will be responsible for expanding and developing Criterion's current risk management and survey business. Brown will also deal with a portfolio of claims to complement Criterion's nationwide adjusting service.

A chartered surveyor, Scott Brown began his career at Phillips Auctioneers in 1985 and started his loss adjusting career at its newly-opened Mayfair office, becoming one of the company's few 'Lloyd's Adjusters'.

In 2001 James set up a specialist high net worth company to operate as a subsidiary to another loss adjuster.

Adjusting Appointments
Rob Adams has joined Adjusting Appointments as a recruitment consultant with specific responsibility for the recruitment of claims technicians across all disciplines into the loss adjusting profession.

DAS
Solicitor Kathryn Mortimer has joined the senior management team of DAS Legal Expenses Insurance in the newly-created position of head of legal services.

She joins DAS from outsourcing specialist Capita, where she was head of legal services.
