A guide to this week's movements in the insurance industry


Alexander Forbes
Alexander Forbes has appointed David Wicks as executive director of its international divisions's construction team.

Formerly a construction team director for Miller Insurance Services, Wicks brings with him more than 35 years' experience in the construction and engineering insurance industry.

He has previously worked on a number of major global programmes around the world, including: the Channel tunnel and Dartford river crossing in the UK; oil and gas projects in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia; power stations in Korea, China, Greece and Hong Kong; metros in Brazil, Singapore, Australia and Belgium; and hydroelectric dam projects in Brazil.

Panagiotis Tsakos has been made assistant manager for Aon's marine global practice group.

Having previously spent six years in creditor insurance, Tsakos is based in London and responsible for strengthening Aon's network of global offices.

His family have served the marine industry for more than three generations, and gained invaluable experience working for Tsakos Shipping and Trading in Piraeus and London.

David Cunningham is the new managing director of Colemont's marine and energy division.

Cunningham brings more than 20 years of industry experience in all sectors of the maritime industry in both London and international markets.

Also joining the marine and energy division are senior broker Keith Reardon and broker Gareth Clarke.

Willis Group Holdings has appointed Stephen Coombes as a new finance director for its reinsurance division, Willis Re.

Coombes was previously employed with Generali, where he was responsible for territories including the US, South Africa, UK, Ireland and Scandinavia.


Atrium Underwriting has appointed Philip Swatman and Raymond Dumas as independent non-executive directors.

Swatman is a vice-chairman of the investment banking division of Rothschilds and replaces James Joll, who has become chairman.

Dumas is a non-executive director of Managing Agency Partners, a privately-owned managing agency at Lloyd's that manages Syndicate 2791, in which Atrium participates.

Cardif Pinnacle
Ross Hall take the role of compliance manager at Cardif Pinnacle.

He will be responsible for operations, conducting reviews, providing guidance and liaising with the FSA.

Hall was previously employed with Aon Specialty and has spent over a decade in management and technology consultancy.

Goodhealth Worldwide
Lisa Rowe has joined Goodhealth Worldwide as European business manager, where she will be responsible for developing sales throughout Mediterranean Europe.

Her role consists of liaising with and developing the broker network within Goodhealth's newly integrated Europe region.

Rowe brings with her 14 years' experience in the health insurance broker market, including nine years with Bupa International.

Goodhealth has also appointed Nettie Keep as HR business partner, joining from Primary Group where she has worked since 2004.

She will now play a major part in technical and customer services training and setting training standards worldwide.

Insurex Expo-Sure
Mark Trevor has been appointed managing director of Insurex Expo-Sure.

Trevor was previously managing director at JK Buckenham, Howden's reinsurance subsidiary.

He started his career in the Royal Navy, where he spent 14 years, which included command of the destroyer, HMS Southampton. He later spent two years as senior finance manager in the Ministry of Defence.

Insurance Expo-Sure has also expanded its team with two further appointments: Adam Garside became business development executive in May, having previously held a similar development role with the Royal Bank of Scotland; and James Clarke was appointed as trainee underwriter, having spent four years working in Japan as a senior instructor in an English language school.

Towergate Partnership
Towergate's new sales and service operation has appointed Jonathan Walker as managing director.

The unit is to be the focal point to service higher volume and lower premium business, with specialty businesses, including professional risks, military personnel cover, road haulage, doctors, dentists and alternative therapists.

Walker previously held contact management roles within Budget Insurance, Airtours and Thomas Cook.

Other key positions within Towergate's sales and service team have been filled internally, with Tony Lawrence appointed sales director and Alyson Adsett as marketing manager.


Sarah Wood has been appointed sales and marketing manager for Multiassistance.

Wood previously spent four years working as a brand manager for PGE - one of the largest electronic manufacturing services companies.


Sciemus has appointed Simon Clapham as director of insurance. In this role he will be responsible for all of the group's activities in the insurance market, and specifically for the Libsat contract with Liberty Syndicates.

Clapham has spent 28 years in the insurance market, previously working as the active underwriter for syndicates 2987 and 800 within the Brit Insurance Group.

André Finn, chief executive and co-founder of Sciemus, said: "Simon's experience in the world insurance market, together with his knowledge of space insurance, will be of great value to us. We have a number of opportunities available to Sciemus and Simon will help us in delivering these to the insurance market."

Sean Dalton, managing director of Liberty Syndicates, said: "We are delighted that Simon has joined Sciemus and will form part of the LibSat project.
