Chambers & NewmanChambers & Newman (Manchester) has acquired the business of Farrington Wainwright, a Stockport-based commercial insurance broker. Chris Gradwell will be joining the enlarged organisation as client manager and the business will operate from the existing Chambers & Newman premises.Ian Maher has been appointed a director of Chambers & Newman (Manchester), with responsibility for development, and Michael Prophet becomes group finance manager.

Chesterfield GroupStephen Bottley has joined the Chesterfield Group, a Lloyd's broker. At Chesterfield, which specialises in non-marine wholesale binding authority and facultative business, Bottley will head up a new underwriting operation focused on establishing and developing a worldwide personal lines and motor account.Bottley's career has included senior appointments with several major broking houses. He joins Chesterfield from Lloyd's broker SBJ, where he was a director.

RP Hodson Insurance BrokersOval Insurance has appointed Martin Kelsh as associate director of its London-based insurance broking division RP Hodson Insurance Brokers.Kelsh has joined to take responsibility for managing the new business, marketing, sales, and business development initiatives for RP Hodson's London and Southern regions. He has been in the insurance industry for 23 years and previously worked at Kelsh & Sons, Miller Kelsh, Millers and Alexander Forbes.

Halifax General InsuranceBank of Scotland Commercial Insurance, part of Halifax General Insurance, has appointed Paul Bishop as national schemes development manager. Bishop will develop the role within the commercial insurance operation to identify and prioritise potential schemes, working with both the bank and insurer partners to develop tailored propositions that meet customer needs and deliver competitive advantage. He initially joined Bank of Scotland Commercial Insurance as regional sales manager for the South, having moved from Marsh UK, where he held the post of associate director (sales in the affinity division). Bishop has also worked for AXA as key account manager responsible for managing the relationships with major partnerships.

Willis Willis Group has recruited senior specialist Charlotte Legergren to its international mergers and acquisitions practice.Legergren joins Willis from Marsh, where she was responsible for its private equity mergers and acquisitions operations for the Nordic Region. At Willis, she will be based in Stockholm and will be working closely with the mergers and acquisitions practice headquarters in London.

CJ ColemanLloyd's broker CJ Coleman has made several internal appointments.Terence Webb is appointed manager, responsible for all matters relating to the business and staff of the broking, placing, technical and processing operations.Paul Collins is appointed associate director, responsible for the trading accounting functions.Paul Shilliam is appointed associate director, responsible for IT. Nigel Renaut is appointed associate director, claims. Andrew Bettis and Jonathan Brunning are appointed vice president, American marketing.

Brit Insurance HoldingsBrit Insurance Holdings has appointed Mike Sibthorpe as underwriting director of the London market centre. The London market underwriting centre covers business written by both Brit Insurance Ltd and Brit Syndicate 2987. Sibthorpe has been with Brit since 1998, when he joined the board of Brit Insurance Ltd as underwriting director for the accident and financial division. Prior to joining Brit, he was a director within the personal lines partnership division of Eagle Star. Prior to that, he worked in the banking sector.

Chaucer HoldingsChaucer Holdings, a Lloyd's insurer, has appointed Christian Daniele as managing director of Chaucer Underwriting A/S, its Europe division, based in Copenhagen.Daniele will oversee the development of the division, which specialises in European reinsurance and worldwide accident and health catastrophe business. Having worked with Unione Italiana in Rome and in Munich, Daniele joined Vesta Fire Corporation in Copenhagen in 1997. He then joined Copenhagen Re as a facultative underwriter in 1999, from where he joined Chaucer Underwriting A/S in 2002.Daniele succeeds Jens Tarp, who after five years as managing director of Chaucer Underwriting A/S has chosen to stand down and to assume a part-time director role, with continued responsibilities for underwriting and marketing.

Ace European Group Ace European Group has appointed Alan Sumner to the position of business development manager for the accident and health division in Manchester.Sumner previously worked for Independent Insurance and recently with Zurich Commercial. He will be tasked with building the relationship with key accident and health clients and brokers within the region.

Chubb InsuranceChubb Insurance has appointed Jason Harris as UK and Ireland marketing manager.Previously property manager for UK and Ireland, Harris has worked with Chubb since 1997, when he joined as an energy underwriter. Prior to this he worked with Gan Insurance as a risk control engineer and underwriter.Harris succeeds Paul Chapman, who has been promoted to worldwide underwriting manager, accident benefits and life.

Fortis InsuranceSteve Broughton has joined the senior team at Fortis Insurance as a non-executive director.Broughton has more than 30 years' insurance experience. He will assist the senior team at Fortis in delivering company strategy, broadening the Fortis proposition and extending its business partner relationships.

Illium Syndicate 4040Lloyd's liability syndicate Illium Syndicate 4040 has appointed claims director John Craig.Craig joins Illium from Syndicate 45, where he was claims manager. He started his career at the English & American Insurance Company. In 1971 he joined Syndicate 45 (BR Smith) as an underwriting assistant, moving into the claims area in 1972. He has more than 30 years' experience of claims handling and associated technical issues. He has specialised in employers' liability, third party liability and professional indemnity business.

InsurE-comInsurE-com has appointed three major account managers, who will focus on insurE-com's key accounts. Penny Stanfield and Kerry Short have been promoted internally to become major account managers from their current roles as insurE-com account executives.Richard Summers joins from AXA and Cedar, where he spent the last three years working in key account management for the software and IT sector.

Intermap TechnologiesIntermap Technologies has appointed Andy Shepherd as channel manager for its NEXTMap Britain 3D land mapping products.Shepherd joined Intermap in 2000 and has been involved with the NEXTMap Britain project since its inception. He will be responsible for direct sales and channel development as well as continuing to provide support to NEXTMap Britain users. He has experience in remote sensing, photogrammetry and geographic information systems and he is a qualified geologist.

Devonshire Claims ServicesDevonshire Claims Services has appointed Ingrid Karhammar to join its newly-established specialty lines division. She will be jointly responsible for growing the directors' and officers', energy and banks business. Karhammar joins from Mills & Reeve, a City law firm.

QuestGatesLoss adjuster QuestGates has appointed environmental professional David Waller as a senior adjuster, based at the company's Bolton office.Waller will work with environmental claims divisional director Alan Dobson to assist in the development and expansion of the environmental claims unit.

RubiconRubicon, a provider of outsourced services and solutions to the insurance industry, has appointed Bob Northmore as technical claims director. Northmore held senior insurance claims management positions at GAN, Dominion and Zurich prior to forming his own consultancy in 2000. He has specialised in restructuring personal lines claims operations, constructing claims handling outsourcing audit models and developing business requirements for the e-enablement of claims processes.

Winchester WhiteWinchester White, a specialist financial services management consultancy, has appointed Ron Wedderburn as senior consultant. Wedderburn joins from Sonata Software, where he was director of insurance practice. In that role, he was responsible for the development and growth of the company's offering in the insurance sector. He has more than 20 years' experience in the financial services industry. He has particular experience in new business development, international strategic analysis, outsourcing and e-business.
