The Fyfe Group
Steve Arrowsmith, has joined The Fyfe Group as information and communications technology manager following a successful period as development consultant to the Purley-based group.

The Fyfe Group specialises in niche markets, including broker-only Motor Trade Solutions and direct brand, Road Runner Motor Trade.

Arrowsmith joins The Fyfe Group from systems implementation and project management roles at Uunet and Systems Management International.

JL Manson
Manchester-based broker JL Manson & Partners has appointed Anthony Dorant as account handler to strengthen its commercial team.

Dorant has a degree in risk management. He has over 11 years' experience in the industry. Dorant was previously with Aon Insurance.

Ellis Bates
Harrogate based broker Ellis Bates has appointed Richard White as a director. White has many years experience in the local insurance market and specialises in coach and minibus insurances.

Annan Insurance Group
The Annan Insurance Group of Wolverhampton has made three recent appointments to further strengthen and expand its business team in broking and compliance.

Beth Pugh joins as a senior broker. She has 15 years' experience with companies and broking, the past ten years of which was in Australia where she gained qualification.

Sue Joyce joins as a senior broker. She has over 20 years' experience gained in the company and broking markets having built a wealth of knowledge in property classes initially gained with General Accident.

Clive Parkes joins as systems administrator. Formerly with GRE/AXA for 23 years in the Midlands and latterly the South, Parkes brings over 25 years' industry experience to work closely with the directors in compliance and operational matters.

Smart and Cook
Smart and Cook has appointed Matthew Gibson as group financial controller. In a newly-created role, he will work closely with group finance director Ian Shay and the Smart and Cook board to develop the company's active acquisition plans.

Gibson is an experienced accountant having completed his training at the Leeds office of Price Waterhouse. He later worked as group accountant at ISA International, a Bradford-based distributor of stationery and electronic office supplies.

MCIS
MCIS has appointed Reg Brown as its new chairman. Brown is a past president of the CII.

Lord Rix has accepted the role of honorary president with charity insurance broker MCIS.

Lord Rix said: "With the new FSA regulation, it was timely for me to step aside for a chairman with more expertise in this area."

Markel International
Markel International has appointed Terry Fanning to its UK aviation division. He will join the underwriting team in early November and will report to divisional managing directors Peter Bilsby and Rod Mearing.

Fanning joins from Brit Insurance and has more than 30 years of aviation underwriting experience.

Fanning first began work within the Lloyd's aviation market in 1969. Since then he has worked in a variety of roles, including deputy underwriter for ERH Hill aviation Syndicate 800. He has been a member of various Lloyd's aviation working parties and this year was a member on both the joint technical clauses committee and Lloyd's aviation underwriters committee.

Hardy Underwriting Group
Hardy Underwriting Group has appointed Jamie MacDiarmid as finance director. MacDiarmid, who joined from KPMG in April this year, with responsibility for the group's finances, has significant expertise both in the Lloyd's and company markets. He is already a director of other Hardy group companies.

Fusion Insurance
Fusion Insurance has appointed Nick Wright as regional sales manager to be based in the Midlands. He joins from Zenith Commercial where he was regional sales & operations manager for Home Counties South. Prior to this, Wright worked for Primary Broker Services as sales and marketing director. He has over 16 years' experience within the insurance market.

David Boulcott is appointed deputy underwriting manager based in London. Boulcott was previously employed with Royal & SunAlliance where he was key account manager. He has worked in the insurance industry for over 21 years and is ACII qualified.

Beachcroft Wansbroughs
Nigel Frudd has been appointed by commercial law firm Beachcroft Wansbroughs as its first head of financial services. Previously he was group legal director at Scottish Amicable and St James's Place International. And he was corporate finance partner at accountancy Robson Rhodes.

This new position has been established to further develop Beachcroft Wansbroughs extensive financial services business.

In his new role Frudd will work closely with partners James MacNish Porter and Mark Beattie, both of whom have extensive financial services experience.

Sectornet
Sectornet, formerly known as MCS, has announced that Chris Jones has joined the company as new business consultant.

Jones brings a wealth of industry knowledge and experience to Sectornet, having worked in the insurance market for 17 years. For the past five years he has been with software suppliers NMT and most recently, Sirius, where he also held a sales position in the new business team.

Jones has responsibility for selling the Sectornet Sector software to medium-to -large brokers throughout the UK.

CDL
Paul Ware has joined Stockport-based insurance IT provider CDL as the company's insurer account manager. His key responsibilities include relationship management and product development to ensure instant access to insurers' latest products via the daily updated CDL Classic personal lines broker system.

He has 17 years' experience in insurance, most recently at Hiscox where he worked as a high net worth underwriter.

Robin Wood Associates
Compliance consultancy Robin Wood Associates (RWA) has appointed Catherine Nicoll as director of insurance, conduct of business.

Nicholl is based in RWA's new City office. Her role will focus on advising insurers and intermediaries as they prepare for FSA regulation and she will specialise in the implementation and maintenance of the new insurance conduct of business rules.

Nicoll has had wide ranging senior management experience gained in the UK and North America in insurance broking, risk management.

She spent four years with the Lloyd's Equitas project. Then in 1999 she joined GISC, where she was responsible for developing and implementing a programme of consumer education and the promotion of GISC.

In her new role at RWA, Nicholl will continue to work closely with GISC .

Company focus

Markel UK
Markel (UK) , the regional insurance arm of Markel International, has more than doubled its specialist workforce over the past two years and has moved to new larger office space in the west end of Leeds to accommodate them.

The office was opened by Tony Markel, president and chief operating officer of Markel Corporation, the US holding company.

Markel has had offices in the central business district of Leeds for over 12 years, most recently in Russell Street.

The new office will service its supporting brokers in the North East, as well as providing support for its other regional underwriting offices across the UK.

In addition to the underwriters who will be based at the offices, an enlarged team of claims, administration and accounting employees will also be retained there.
