Allianz Cornhill Schemes
Allianz Cornhill Schemes, a division of Allianz Cornhill Insurance, has appointed Norrie MacDonald as its new business manager.

He has 15 years' financial sector experience gained as a senior manager responsible for sales development and product sales at Chartered Trust, Royscot Trust and Forthright Finance. He moved into the general insurance market in 1995 when he joined London & Edinburgh as national sales manager to grow the credit insurance portfolio.

ACE Europe
ACE Europe has appointed Mark Horan to the Manchester office as a commercial underwriter.

He joins ACE Europe from AXA where he worked in a variety of regional offices for their commercial property and casualty team.

UnumProvident
UnumProvident has appointed Claire Farrelly as director of corporate development.

Previously, she worked as a senior consultant to Ernst & Young, responsible for a wide range of projects including the actuarial aspects of audits for various blue-chip financial services companies.

Farrelly has also worked as an actuary for Royal & SunAlliance both in the UK and abroad.

CNA Europe
Paul Steventon has joined CNA Europe as senior underwriter - casualty, with specific responsibility for developing its casualty portfolio in Manchester and the surrounding areas.

He joins CNA from Independent Insurance, where he was responsible for managing the casualty account for branches throughout the southern region. Prior to that, Steventon worked for six years as a casualty underwriter for Commercial Union.

Tanja Jung has been appointed as a senior underwriter within the property team in London. Jung will relocate from CNA's Frankfurt office to its London headquarters.

Prior to joining CNA in 2000, she worked for nine years for Zurich International.

Steve O'Gorman will head up marine cargo underwriting for Continental Europe, based in CNA's Continental Cross Border Branch in Paris. O'Gorman will relocate from the UK where he was responsible for managing CNA's cargo account in London.

Hiscox
Specialist insurer Hiscox has appointed Aaron Devitt as the new head of its Scottish office in Glasgow.

Devitt joins Hiscox from AXA Insurance where his role was area manager for the Southern region. He has ten years experience within the insurance industry, including time as the regional manager for Independent Insurance .

Martin McBrearty joins the Scottish team as a professions underwriter while Jane Adams joins the Midlands team as a high value household underwriter.

McBrearty joins Hiscox Scotland from Aon. Adams joins Hiscox Birmingham from MCIS and has worked in the insurance industry for eight years, including positions at both Aon and Eagle Star.

ASA Insurance Services
Markerstudy Group have announced the appointment of Simon Clayton as chief executive of the recently acquired ASA Insurance Services.

With a 30-year background in general insurance underwriting, much of it at senior management level, he takes up his position following a period as managing director of White Horse Insurance Ireland, the MyTravel Group captive.

Ryan Insurance
Ryan Insurance has added two more staff to its commercial sales team, as part of its expansion plans across East Anglia.

John Reilly has been appointed business development manager for Norfolk, at Ryan's new Norwich branch.

He has wide commercial experience. He was a broker business manager at Royal & SunAlliance from 1973 till 1999, then had three years working in business development at Suffolk broker, Pound Gates. His roles strengthens the commercial team in Norfolk.

David Trodd has been appointed to spearhead Ryan's commercial growth in the Essex area. He has 25 years' experience in insurance, for Pearl and AXA Direct in commercial sales, and most recently for a Coversure franchise in Chelmsford.

Folgate Partnership
The Folgate Partnership has announced the appointment of Steve Giles as head of sales.

Giles brings with him a wealth of experience within the insurance sector having previously held marketing and sales management positions for Commercial Union and GAN.

More recently he worked for French broker Tinubu Square.

Annan Insurance
Don Metcalfe joins the team in the technical broking unit at Annan Insurance.

The company's apprentice broker scheme has also been expanded this year.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer
Dispute resolution partner Raj Parker has taken over as head of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer's contentious insurance and reinsurance group from previous head, partner Paul Leonard.

Parker specialises in insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution, public and administrative law and sports law. He also sits as an arbitrator and is a Recorder. He has been a partner with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer for ten years.

Singer & Friedlander
Singer & Friedlander Insurance Finance has appointed Andy James as assistant director.

He has more than 15 years' experience in the finance industry and joined Singer & Friedlander in 2000 as operations manager. Prior to joining Singer & Friedlander, he was Northern European customer services manager for Caterpillar Financial Services and previously spent ten years with HSBC.

Premium First
Premium credit newcomer Premium First has expanded its sales team .

The company has appointed Adam Baker as its new southern business development executive and is looking to recruit further following six months of rapid growth in the personal lines marketplace.

Baker has a strong and successful history in the premium credit market, having worked previously for Independent and most recently Finsure.

Expacare
Expacare has appointed Julie Macey as operations director.

She started her medical insurance career with Health First (later to become Royal & SunAlliance) followed by ten years at Western Provident Association (WPA) with four years as a main board director.

She launched WPA PROTOCOL, a healthcare administration company for organisations who self-fund employees' healthcare as well as designing innovative plans for companies large and small.

Browne Jacobson appoints four new partners

Browne Jacobson has appointed four new partners. They are Nik Carle, Sarah Erwin, Paul Taylor, and Iain Patterson.

Iain Patterson leads the employment team based in the firm's Birmingham office, and will further develop the firm's employment practice in the West Midlands.

Paul Taylor will lead and develop the teams acting for NHS clients defending claims for catastrophic injury.

Sarah Erwin strengthens Browne Jacobson's national team of lawyers specialising in defending professional negligence claims against social care providers and local education authorities.

Nik Carle will be broadening the professional negligence claims practice and will build on Browne Jacobson's policy response and drafting expertise.

Browne Jacobson also announces the promotion of six of the firm's solicitors to associate. They are Ed Anderson (London), Mark Blois (Nottingham), Steve Cornfield (Birmingham), Alison Howard (Nottingham), Sue Mabbott (Nottingham) and Emma Rees (Birmingham).
