Specialist legal expenses insurer Temple Legal Protection has appointed a new senior legal underwriter, Joanne Lane.

Already an underwriter at Temple, Lane has managed the landmark cases of Callery v Gray and Sarwar v Alam.

Paul Bonner has been appointed as director of legal underwriting.

In his new role, he will take charge of Temple's ATE underwriting department. He has vast experience of legal expenses insurance, having worked in the market for 18 years. Before coming to Temple, Bonner worked for Legal Protection Group and First Assist

Hiscox
Philip Saunders has joined Hiscox Syndicate 33's property division. He will concentrate on developing Hiscox's small to mid-market fire business.

Saunders has 25 years' experience in the Lloyd's market with particular expertise in mid-market companies. He joins Hiscox from another Lloyd's agency where he led worldwide open market and binder business.

Chubb Europe
Chris Giles has been appointed president and chief executive of Chubb Insurance Company of Europe. He was previously head of Chubb's Asia Pacific region, based in Singapore.

Giles succeeds Joel D Aronchick, who has been promoted to the role of director of international operations, with responsibility for Europe, Asia, Latin America, Canada and Bermuda.

Giles joined Chubb in 1995 from AIG. He managed Chubb's European accident and health business for three years before being named Asia Pacific zone officer in 1998.

He is a senior vice president and managing director of Chubb & Son.

Aronchick was previously president and chief executive of Chubb Insurance Company of Europe. He is a senior vice president and managing director of Chubb & Son.

Rubicon
Rubicon Corporation has appointed Ashton West as group claims director. He joins from Swiss Re Germany where he was UK claims consultant.

He also acted as executive chairman for its wholly owned subsidiary ReIntra. Prior to this, he spent 30 years at Iron Trades Insurance Company, the past three years as claims director.

John Hobbs has been appointed to the operations team as operations manager. He joins from Capita Eastgate where he spent two years as an internal business consultant.

Christine McCaffrey has been appointed claims operations manager for Rubicon Insurance Solutions.

Stuart Webb joins as business development manager for Rubicon Insurance Solutions.

He joined Rubicon in March from Independent, where he launched his insurance career 13 years ago.

Willis Risk Solutions
Anthony Oakley has joined Willis Group as deputy managing director of Willis Risk Solutions in the UK.

Formerly with Bain Dawes (later to become Bain Hogg), Oakley was appointed managing director of the risk management division of Bain Hogg, prior to its acquisition by Aon in 1996. Most recently he was managing director of Aon's strategic account management group.

Rees Astley
Mike Gardner becomes a director of Rees Astley after managing the company's Oswestry office for three years. He joins Steve O'Donnell and Alun Hughes.

HIBL
Henderson Insurance Brokers (HIBL) has promoted Andrew White to director of HIBL corporate division.

White joined the firm in 1993 as a broking technician and most recently held the position of associate director.

JLT Re Solutions
JLT Re Solutions (JLT Re), the US reinsurance broker subsidiary of London-based Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group, announces the appointment of John M Novak and Mark E Hansen as vice presidents.

MCE
Wellingborough-based insurance provider MCE has appointed Colin Pedwell to the newly-created role of operations manager. With 17 years' experience working across every section of the company, he will be responsible for managing MCE's internal auditing, product rating and pricing, and claims management systems.

The Quest Partnership
Liability adjuster The Quest Partnership has strengthened its professional indemnity division with a key appointment.

Jerome Curran, a solicitor, takes over a new role as controller for professional indemnity and casualty claims. He was previously with Davies Lavery Solicitors.

Quest has also promoted associate partner Rob Butcher to claims controller to head up the firm's Sterling Insurance account.

GAB Robins
GAB Robins has appointed Nick Green as vice president of GAB Robins, North America.

He has 25 years' loss adjusting experience and has worked for several UK insurance companies.

Technology

Acturis
Jonathan Smith has joined Acturis as business development executive, based in Manchester covering the North of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

He joins Acturis from Storagetek, having sold at senior management and director level for over five years, most recently selling disaster recovery solutions and managed services. Prior to joining Storagetek, Smith was a successful credit risk underwriter at Euler Trade Indemnity.

Mondial Assistance
Mondial Assistance has announced a new restructuring initiative developed to unite the corporate and financial services department with the travel division. Three new internal appointments have been made. Jon Cooper, previously trading manager is now commercial manager; Steve Hook has been appointed client services manager, from his previous position of national sales manager of the corporate and financial services division; and Michael Hynd has been appointed finance manager.

Hazell Carr
Financial sector outsourcer Hazell Carr is to open an office in Stirling to provide a dedicated resourcing facility to the Scottish pensions and insurance industry.

The new office will be headed by Hazell Carr's Eddie McGuire, a Scottish actuary with over 16 years' experience gained in senior positions in the life and pensions industry in Scotland and who has been working there for Hazell Carr for the last two years.

ISS Ark & General
Disaster Recovery and BCM specialist ISS Ark & General has promoted Matt Inns to the position of site supervisor at its Hednesford headquarters.

Inns joined the UK and Ireland wide company in the summer of 1999 and has a background in electronic engineering.

HealthSure
HealthSure has made two appointments to its marketing team. Ayshea Domun joins as marketing assistant and Meesha Chauhan joins as marketing development assistant.
