Fortis Insurance
Fortis Insurance has appointed five new staff members. Matthew Thomas joins as head of strategy and planning, responsible for identifying and implementing tactical and strategic initiatives. The underwriting team is boosted by Claire Hazlehurst, pricing manager for motor and household, Stuart MacIntyre, underwriting pricing analyst, and Stephen Clery, motor underwriter.

Supporting the company's commitment to electronic trading is Ian Josephs, electronic business co-ordinator, who will lead the project development team.

Miller Insurance Group
The Miller Insurance Group (Millers) announce the appointment of Nick Drury as a director.

Drury joined Millers' UK business risks unit based in Beckenham to head up a new global services team. He has over 30 years' experience in the insurance industry, and was previously regional director at Alexander Forbes in Birmingham.

Liberty Syndicates
Lloyd's managing agency Liberty Syndicates announce the appointment of Brian FitzGerald as non-executive chairman to replace George Nissen who has retired.

FitzGerald has over 30 years' experience in banking. He is currently vice chairman of Riggs & Co International, the London-based private banking subsidiary of Riggs Bank. He has worked in many of the major financial centres around the world, mostly with Standard Chartered.

In 1995 FitzGerald joined the Lloyd's Market as chief executive of Janson Green. After the company's sale to LIMIT, he subsequently became deputy chairman.

Insure & Go
Insure & Go, the low cost travel insurance company, has appointed David Wainwright as a new account manager.

He will be responsible for raising awareness of the company's new Scratch & Go cards, which allow holidaymakers to get last minute travel insurance from retail outlets. He joins Insure & Go from WH Smith's where, he was a buyer responsible for Scratch & Go vouchers.

Folgate Masterplan
Folgate Masterplan has recruited a new business development team which includes Gordon Campbell, a former Senior Wright and Towergate sales executive, and Craig Hulkes, who has re-joined Masterplan from Folgate Insurance. Internally promoted business development executive Charlie Thomas also joins the team.

Smart & Cook
Smart and Cook announce the appointment of Simon Donnelley as group claims technical manager. He is a chartered loss adjuster and previously worked as claims manager at Jardine Lloyd Thompson. Donnelley has more than 20 years' experience in the industry, specialising in corporate claims handling.

Crawford & Co
Ian Muress has joined Crawford & Company in the UK as managing director, UK and Ireland. He has worked in adjusting and claims management for more than 23 years. Previously, he was group chief executive for McLarens Toplis.

BELFOR
BELFOR has promoted John Thompson from supervisor at its Nottingham branch to senior supervisor, residential direct. He is directly responsible for co-ordination of day-to-day operations nationwide through his team of supervisors and mobile technicians.

Thompson has worked in the damage management industry for more than 20 years. Initially with Disaster Master in Nottingham, he moved to BELFOR following its acquisition last year. He is a member of the British Damage Management Association (BDMA) attaining both senior restorer and specialist restorer status.

Mighty Dot
Stephen Harding has been appointed as insurance services manager at vehicle and security specialist Mighty Dot.

With more than 10 years' experience in the motor insurance industry Harding will be responsible for securing an insurance rating for Mighty Dot's vehicle marking product and developing relationships with insurance companies.
