FM Global
Shivan S Subramaniam, president and chief executive officer of commercial and industrial property insurer FM Global, has been elected to the additional post of chairman of the board by FM Global's board of directors. Subramaniam succeeds John Luke, president and chief executive officer of MeadWestvaco. Luke will continue serving as a director on the board.

CUAL
Catlin Underwriting Agencies (CUAL) has appointed Clive Magnus as a director of the underwriting board.

He has worked in the insurance market since 1981. He started his career in Lloyd's as an assistant underwriter with the Brockbank syndicate 89. He then moved in 1984 to the newly formed Hawtin syndicate 1009 where he assisted in developing the energy and liability accounts and, in 1989, was appointed energy and liability underwriter. In 1994 he was promoted to the position of deputy underwriter for the syndicate.

Ecclesiastical
Ecclesiastical Insurance has appointed Niall McIntosh to the newly created position of casualty manager. He has more than 20 years' experience in the market and joins from Royal & SunAlliance where he worked in a number of head office underwriting roles.

Richard Woodhouse has been appointed to the newly created position of underwriting audit manager.

Norwich Union
Norwich Union has announced that Graham Boffey is to become the new corporate partnerships director, replacing Derek Plummer who is stepping down.

Boffey, who is currently the company's director of claims sourcing and supply, will take on his new role on August 1.

Plummer, who was corporate partnerships director at the time of the CGNU merger in 2000, will support Boffey in his new role until Plummer leaves the company in September.

CNA
CNA has appoinetd Peter Ellis to lead its non-marine underwriting operations for the north of England, reporting to Ian Harrison, CNA's Manchester branch manager.

Ellis joined CNA two years ago from ITT London & Edinburgh and has more than 25 years' of non-marine underwriting experience in the north-west. He succeeds Andrew Dougall who recently moved to London to head up casualty underwriting for CNA in Europe.

BROKERS

The Bollington Group
The Bollington Group has announced three new appointments. Sarah Boczek has joined as administrator co-ordinator for mortgages. Katie Hopkins is appointed as commercial claims technician.

Ben Hopkins takes up a position in the retail division, specialising in delegated commercial schemes.

Aon
Aon has appointed Ron Smith as adviser to its aviation consulting and reinsurance broking division. He has more than 40 years' experience in aviation claims, including 30 years spent at the Ariel syndicate at Lloyd's, where he was director of claims.

Goss & Co
Thames Valley broker Goss &Co has appointed Mark Young as development manager. He joins from Willis.

ACTUARIAL

EMB
Andrzej Czernuszewicz, who runs the Cambridge office of actuarial consultants EMB, has been appointed partner. He is also joint managing director of Paratus Consulting, the financial modelling subsidiary. He is responsible for the development and marketing of Igloo, the innovative risk modelling software.

He joined EMB in 2000 from Lloyd's, where he was a founder member of the Market Risk Unit.

LOSS ADJUSTERS

Cunningham Lindsey
Robert Dalton has been appointed as divisional director at the London-based home foreign team at Cunningham Lindsey. He has more than 20 years' adjusting experience.

Miller Fisher
Miller Fisher announces that Barrie Smith-Wright and Christine McCaffrey have joined its business solutions division as sales manager for warranty and niche products and head of operations respectively.

Smith-Wright, who brings with him many years of experience from the specialist domestic warranty, electrical and furniture markets, joins from Pinnacle Insurance where he was assistant general manager warranty.

Christine McCaffrey has more than 20 years' industry experience covering commercial and personal lines. She joins from AXA where she has held several senior management positions including director of operations in AXA Direct (Prospero) and head of personal lines claims for the UK.

LEGAL

Amicus Legal
Chris Beahan has joined Amicus Legal to develop the new Amicus staff relations service. He joins from Thornhill Technology where he was account manager.

James Chapman
James Chapman has appointed Christina Davies as senior assistant solicitor in its insurance litigation team. She joins from Hempsons and has also worked for Hill Dickinson and Hammonds Suddards Edge.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT

ISS Ark & General
Joe Cook has been appointed at ISS Ark & General as general manager for Scotland & Ireland, he previously worked for Relectronic Remech and is also a qualified loss adjuster having worked for GAB Robins and Ellis & Buckle.

Chris Paterson joins ISS Ark & General as regional manager, is also an ex-Relectronic Remech employee. He is a qualified engineer.

Donal O'Donovan has been appointed to the position of regional manager for Ireland. He joins ISS with several years experience in disaster recovery and is also a former Relectronic Remech employee. He is a qualified mechanical engineer.

Barry Taylor joins as regional manager at the newly opened Portsmouth branch, he joins with both disaster recovery and machinery relocation experience, latterly working as business development manager for a local engineering company.

OTHER

OGC
Carole Edrich has been appointed chief examiner of the Office of Government Commerce's (OGC) Management of Risk course. The OGC is part of the Treasury and has developed this course and accompanying material over a number of years, in partnership with a variety of experts from the public and private sector.

Edrich will continue to write CPD units for Insurance Times, and carry out other academic alliances in her role as principal of KAI Corporation (Risk).

TCA Consulting
TCA Consulting has appointed John Searle as principal consultant. Prior to joining, he was vice president at Morgan Stanley.

FSA
David Jackman, head of industry training and business ethics adviser of the FSA has been appointed as visiting professor at the centre for financial regulation studies at London Guildhall University.
