The new Minister for Work, Jane Kennedy, said the government was working to put together a cross-departmental framework for rehabilitation as part of a health and safety drive.
Kennedy made the announcement in a speech to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety at Work Conference held this week in Birmingham.
She said a government framework for rehabilitation services and practices had been recommended in the review of EL insurance, published in December 2003.
Cooperation and a good working relationship between the ministries involves, the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Health, as well as the Health and Safety Executive will be crucial if the initiative is to succeed, Kennedy added.
