Insurer Pet Protect, one of the official sponsors of Crufts, which took place at the Birmingham NEC over the bank holiday, has launched a new offer for dog breeders.

The offer provides six weeks of free cover under the Pet Protect policy for any puppy sold by a breeder. spokesman for Pet Protect, part of the GE Financial Group, said: “There is no obligation to the customer or the breeder.

“At the time they sell the puppy, the breeder can issue one of our cover notes to the buyer, so the puppy is covered should it fall ill in the six-week period.”

He added that Crufts was the ideal place to target dog breeders.

Pet Protect hopes that the offer will help to persuade dog owners of the advantages of having cover for their pets.

The policy does not include cover for essential treatments such as innoculation, but will pay out if the dog has an illness.
