Exeter Friendly Society has launched a cashback plan that pays towards optical and dental care costs.

Cover for both NHS and private treatment will be available from £1.50 a week under the Extracare plan.

Extracare, underwritten by Pinnacle Insurance, will be offered as an extra option to both individual and group private medical insurance policyholders with Exeter Healthcare.

The optical benefit will include eye tests, prescription glasses and permanent contact lenses. The dental benefit will cover checkups, hygienist fees, fillings, caps, crowns, bridges, dentures, orthodontic treatment and any emergency or accidental damage.

Exeter Friendly Society commercial manager, Wendy Evans, said: “Although dental care is one of the fastest-growing areas of the UK healthcare, many private medical insurance policies still do not cover optical or dental treatment.”

She added: “This new addition provides Exeter policyholders with the option of an affordable means of helping to cover the cost of their optical and dental treatment.”

Features of the ExtraCare policy include:

  • up to £20 per year in cash to pay for eye tests
  • up to £370 per year to pay for prescription glasses or permanent contact lenses
  • up to £500 per year to pay for routine dental work, including check ups, fillings, crowns, hygienists' fees and orthodontic bills
  • full refund (up to £10,000 per year) to pay for any dental bills as result of an accident
  • full refund (up to £600 per year) for any dental bills as a result of an emergency.
