Groupama Commercial is offering cover in the US after partnering one of America's oldest insurers, Atlantic Mutual.

The agreement allows Groupama's agents to offer a specialised product to businesses exporting to North America.

North American Products Liability Facility has a capacity of £5m and the ability to take larger risks if required.

It also includes the option of issuing a Certificate of Insurance Cover including the importer's name.

Additionally, Groupama has taken into account the litigious nature of American society.

Acknowledging the difference from British law, the product includes US legal terminology to make it more user-friendly to American courts.

Maggie Lister, commercial director said: “Our partnership with Atlantic Mutual provides us with the substantial underwriting capacity necessary to enable us to cover most clients sending goods to North America.”

She added that the product – which can be enhanced to include such extra coverage as court attendances, bail bonds and personal and advertising injury – was proving popular with brokers.

“We believe that there is a real demand for a simple and user-friendly facility offering cover for North American exports. It is a need not currently satisfied in the UK market,” she added.
