Heath Lambert Group has opened a commercial lines operation in Reading, under managing director Steve Maggs.

And Stephen Wood has been appointed as managing director of the group's Swindon office.

Heath Lambert said the changes were part of a national strategy for the group's UK branch network under one core brand, Heath Lambert National.

The company said it signalled the group's commitment to expanding its presence in the small-to-mid market sector at a time when other brokers are reducing their regional capacity.

Both Maggs and Wood previously worked for Aon.

Steve Thornett, managing director of Heath Lambert National's southern division, said: "We are on a major drive to grow our existing regional business, complementing strengths with new offices and the appointment of new, senior people of exceptional calibre.

"Both these guys are very well respected and connected figures in the southern region and bring with them a wealth of experience in client servicing, broking, business development and business planning.

"We are making a serious commitment to the small-to-mid market sector at a time when other brokers are looking to cast off such business. While some brokers are closing down regional operations and offices, we are opening them."
